Punjab: Ration depots inspected for wheat distribution
A team led by District Controller, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, conducted surprise checks at ration depots. District Controller Roopreet Kaur stated that as per the directions of Food,Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, Principal Secretary Vikas Garg and Director Puneet Goyal, the department was reviewing wheat distribution across the state
As part of the initiative, the wheat distribution in Patiala district was also being checked. Kaur explained that as instructed by the State Food Commission she conducted surprise inspections of the wheat distribution under the National Food Security Act, 2013, and the Smart Ration Card Scheme, from January to March, at depots of Dharminder Singh, depot holder, Green Park Colony, and Sudarshan Kinger, depot holder, Tripuri.
During the inspection, she said the consumers were asked about problems they were facing. Immediate instructions were issued for the resolution of the problems, if any.The DFSC stated that from January to March the wheat distribution was being done through e-POS machines. Electric weighing scales were installed across the district to ensure that consumers received correct quantity and quality of wheat according to their entitlement, she added.
The officer said while she was personally visiting the depots, the field staff were also being sent for checks during the wheat distribution to check discrepancies.
